Imagine – A Memory of Steve Jobs

1978. I am sixteen years old. I sit before a device developed by two men not much older than myself. I sit before one of the first personal computers in the world, my Rev 0 Apple II. One of the first 150 in production. The manual is a xeroxed copy of designer Steve Wozniak’s code and a bit of Jobs explanation of how to use it in a dime store report holder with a clear plastic cover and a copy of their printed brochure with a picture of an Apple on it and the slogan:

Beneficent Big Brother or Malignant Monopoly? Is Google is the New Borg?

Last week, the most powerful company in the world became even more powerful. GOOGLE, Inc. of Mountain View California, just went into the cellphone and cable TV markets, purchasing Motorola Mobility for $12.5B.   Google likes you to think of them as your fuzzy, open-source buddy. They are Big Brother, a corporate BORG, constantly learning and  sucking the viability out of industry.

Google has learned the lesson of monopoly stripping from Microsoft. Make yourself big and scary, and the antitrust lawyers will come calling. Be adept at looking like the public champions, and the Justice Department leaves you alone.

They have managed to plunder the advertising coin of major newspapers and magazines, advertising, and web publishing keeping the web enslaved to its vast collective. They have their sights set on dominating music, entertainment,  mobile telephony and, soon, the auto industry. Read the rest of this entry »

Uncle Barack Wants You!Wild fires in California? Sure, you can call in the smoke jumpers. Superman might be able to blow them out with his super powers. Barack Obama will attack them from the Internet, in a preview of how 2.0 web-based Democracy is going to work.

Everyone has been wondering what Obama is going to do with the millions of connections that he has made with Americans during the campaign. His campaign site recently switched to the site of the President-Elect, and come January, it is expected to remain online as President Obama’s conduit to the people who make the change happen.
