Democrats have a few whopping-bad ideas that we inject from time-to-time into the political system. One of them, the “response” to the State of the Union address, initiated under King Richard of Nixon in 1966, really has to go. [1] Read the rest of this entry »

If the dead can’t vote in Chicago, should they be allowed to influence politics from the grave in Pittsburgh and Denver and New York?
The Koch brothers may be the most visible part of the Dead Billionaires club, but they are not the only New Deal-hating Libertarian elites funding the dismantling of the government of the United States from within.

Casino Jack is back. He’s having that post-prison epiphany that heals both the soul and his bank account. He’s doing the talk show circuit with his mea culpa dunk booth, BUT… Just as Frank Abagnale Jr. became useful to the FBI after his long check kiting run, it sometimes takes a bad guy to get others. If they make a movie about the second act of Jack Abramoff’s life, it has to have this title: “To Catch A Schmuck.” Read the rest of this entry »

That we have the kind of crass, horrific incivility in our polarized politics, and our Right-intimidated media, is not surprising. What is sad, shocking, and somber, is the conduct of thousands, perhaps millions of Americans who do the bidding of the 1% even when it contradicts their own self-interest and their personal moral compass.

President Obama’s poll numbers don’t look good right now. The economy is still reeling. The Congress is even more obstreperous than it has been, getting virtually none of the People’s business done. The Beltway insider media’s take is an old one: If the economy does not improve, the incumbent president is doomed.
Yet the President is in-step with the majority of the American people both on policy and public sentiment. He is offering up solutions to jobs and the economy that are mainstream and endorsed by all but the most extreme of economists.

Occupy Wall Street (OWS) protestors dodged Mayor Bloomberg’s left hook on the ground last Friday, cleaning Liberty Square before the city could use it as an excuse to break up the demonstration, but the leaderless revolt continues to struggle with the 1%’s powerful gatling gun: The corporate-owned media that still influences the opinion of a majority of Americans. Can they show equal brilliance in their air game, as well as their ground game?

Mr. Obama’s plea on behalf of the American people for jobs and his presidency remains stuck in a political no-man’s land. This is not because the majority of the country opposes his proposals. We remain in a WWI-worthy stalemate because the Tea Party has no problem with the concept of one nation, divisible.
The problem is not the politicians. The problem is not the system that has worked for hundreds of years. The problem is Y.O.U.
You don’t understand the big picture of what is happening. You keep waiting for someone else to do something. The only ones doing something are the motivated. The extremists. We have polarization because common-sense Americans keep calling themselves “independents,” griping to pollsters, and waiting for something to change.
You are the change.
You don’t know how? Here is a 101 of what is dividing our country in two that puts it all into perspective for you. Read it. Know it. Share it. Stop the polarization. Act to save the Union.

We are just two months away from the anniversary of the mid-term election of 2010, the oft-celebrated “Tea Party Revolt” by the Right. Tea Party Republicans swept into the 2010 mid-terms, riding mountains of cash from a select few special interests, funding a few dozen astroturf citizen movements like the Club for Growth and a few dozen more foundations and other political money laundering schemes. [1]
Corporations kept their tax loopholes. The uber-rich continue to siphon the Treasury with their 3% tax break. After trillions in proposed cuts in government spending, the slashing of civil rights, the destruction of the right of labor to organize and the slashing of the social safety net, we all have a question for representatives Boehner and Cantor:
Where, in all of this, are the “jobs, jobs, jobs?

“You shouldn’t shop at Wal-Mart. Their employees make low wages and the company doesn’t provide health insurance for them.”
My mother spoke as I continued to look for an available parking space in the sea of cars that is a Wal-Mart parking lot.
She continued: “And women are paid less for doing the same job as their male counterparts.” Read the rest of this entry »
