We all know that our federal government is broken. Special interests rig the game on both sides of the aisle. A recent Gallup poll shows an astounding 81% of the country doesn’t believe Washington is working. We watch parties ignore the will of the people in the center to court money from the fringes. This madness has to stop. But how?  Voting is the key to both the gridlock on governing power and disincentivizing special interest lobbying “buying” elected officials.

Our electoral system needs a major overhaul.  To fix it, we first have to fix how we vote. Two alternative voting systems used by other democracies, and bellwether California’s new voting system may be showing us the way to a brighter horizon for American politics. Read the rest of this entry »

There are thousands of candidates and hundreds of measures before the voters today. The economy is number one on most American’s minds, yet it is the farthest thing from anything you will see on a ballot. Before you pull a lever, punch a chad or draw a line across the broken arrow, maybe you should know what you’re REALLY voting for.

No One Trusts the GOP When it Comes to Civil Rights

In 2012, African-American, Communities, Elections, GOP, Hispanic, Ideologies, Neo Conservatives, Politics, Racism, Republicans, Tea Party, Totalitarianism, Voter Registration, Voting, Years on October 5, 2012 at 9:17 am

There was once a time when you had to own property to vote. During that time, only white land owners were able to cast a ballot for representation, despite the fact that they were not the only people who would be governed.  Now in 2012 ,there is a rash of legislation sweeping the country, swing states in particular, attempting to disenfranchise voters once again not with a poll tax or a test, but with a state identification card. American or Islamic, Radical Fundamentalism is Still Radical Fundamentalism

Fundamentalism is fundamentalism. Jidhadi or Teahadi. The rage and fear that is stoked is real, but it is only a by-product, not a popular groundswell of real thought or desire. These demonstrations of dystopian dysfunctionalism are the handiwork of a handful of powerful Oz-like people who hope these images sell their narrow agenda and keep them in power. The GOP Last Hurrah – Can Romney Use Race and Gender to Get His Magic Number in the White Vote?

In 2010, 2012, Campaign 2012, Club for Growth, Colorado, Communities, Corporatocracy, Dead Billionaires Club, Elections, GOP, Ideologies, Koch Brothers, Libertarian, Michigan, Mitt Romney, Neo Conservatives, Politics, Race, Racism, Republicans, Ronald Reagan, States, Texas, Totalitarianism, Voter Registration, Voting, Wisconsin, Women on September 10, 2012 at 9:53 am

Why is the GOP spending hundreds of millions to push policy that is, by so many polls, out of step with the majority of America? This election is the Alamo of both major camps of the old white power structure, Libertarian and Neocon, that have controlled this country since the dawn of the Industrial Age.   This race is using race and gender in a last ditch effort by a traditional white America to hold power.

Paul Ryan’s Con of America on God, Government, and the Governed

Our freedom is derived from God and nature, not government.  It’s a big applause line for V.P. hopeful Paul Ryan on the stump, and it got a huge whoop at the GOP Convention last night.  It’s the pea under the walnut shell in the con game of Mr. Ryan’s false Libertarianism.  Here’s why.

Forward? It’s Game Over, Dear Progressives. Here’s What You’ve Missed…

Progressives are on the verge of losing the fight for the future direction of America, socially and politically. While we fret about the individual trees of politics in this cycle, from women’s rights to voter intimidation, Libertarians  have been looking at how best to chop down the whole governmental forest for decades.

As Much Education as they Can Afford – Romney Remark Renews a Different Kind of Voter Suppression

Curbing access to higher education may be as, if not more significant, than voter disenfranchisement. Mitt Romney’s stump comment that students should “get as much education as they can afford,” soaring college tuition prices, and the takeover of colleges and universities by business and law faculty are creating a new glass ceiling in academia for the middle class and working poor. Why Negative Political Attack Ads Work: 5 in 10 Americans Can’t Read, 8 in 10 Can’t Process

In 2012, ABC News, Barack Obama, Bureaucracy, Campaign 2012, Civil Protests, Club for Growth, Communities, Constitution, Corporate-controlled Media, Corporatocracy, Dead Billionaires Club, Democrats, Education, Elections, Federal Government, GOP, Ideologies, Liberals, Literacy, Living, Media, Media News & Criticism, Mitt Romney, MSNBC, Neo Conservatives, New Media, Newspapers, Patriotism, Politics, Radio News, Religious Right, Republicans, Social Media, Tea Party, Television News, The Congress, The House, The Senate, Voting on June 29, 2012 at 5:40 pm

Negative political ads work. A majority of Americans form political opinions from ads in their entertainment programming. 51% of the adult population of the United States is barely functionally literate. 94% have varying degrees of difficulty “synthesizing” complicated concepts.

We are devolving rapidly into America, the Ignorant.

How does Democracy thrive in a nation of 344 million Americans when only 2 in 10 of us read a newspaper, electronic news, or watch television news?

Another 2 in 10 listen to Right Wing Talk as their primary news source.

The remainder? They’re at the mercy of every special interest from Americans for Prosperity to the DCCC. Read the rest of this entry »
