Scandal. It’s a much misused word in American politics these days, especially by Republicans looking to distract from the news cycles that have excoriated their policies that have been the root of gridlock in the doing of the people’s business.
It has been misused by a national news media gleefully tossing gasoline on fires, only to find out that the excess heat of the Republican hyperbole about Watergate and scandal was being doused by real news. As those pesky facts rolled in, the majority of the hysteria around three news stories was much ado about nothing. Read the rest of this entry »

Perhaps the only thing more angst-worthy for the white power structure that operates the Republican Party than a black man in the White House, and a tide of upwardly-mobile Latinos moving ever Leftward, is the impending feminist political tidal wave in the form of one Hilary Rodham Clinton.

If you don’t buy a toaster by January 17, you will die.
Sounds stupid, doesn’t it? Yet it is no more ridiculous threat than the equally fictitious “fiscal cliff.” The daily chatter of ‘news’ outlets, talk shows and the water cooler is lemming lunacy. The cliff is not the problem. It’s the Lemmings who are running.

The punditocracy has been abuzz for a post-election news cycle rife with the electoral stomping that Mitt Romney and the GOP took from minorities and women. Wonks and wags full of what it means for the future of the Republican Party. The answer is simple:
The Republican Party is dead. Long live centrist elitism!
American History tells us so. Taft Republicanism is still with us, but it is finally coming to its death throes.

“I Don’t Believe the Liberal Media” is a bumper sticker, a mantra, and an ignorant badge of honor and a disturbing trend: Ignorance is Right-hip. Birtherism, and baseless claims of ‘voter fraud’, and ‘fixed’ jobs numbers are part of the rising alternate reality of Republican politics. The fusion of religious zealotry with blind political ambition is a dangerous new hybrid that threatens the fabric of this republic’s great democracy.

Mitt Romney won last night’s debate by pundit scorecards. He’ll lose the week, though, as the media begins to digest his claims and press him for the specifics of his “plan” at odds with his last eighteen months of campaigning, and frequently, reality.

I have really cool next door neighbors. One of them rang my doorbell this morning at about 7:30 and told me he’d pulled up my Obama yard sign because it looked like this:

Mitt Romney gave the speech of his life last night. It was like “Dancing with the Stars” in a field of IEDs, glancing away from substance, lies barely touching the floor, until he had “the moments” with foreign politics and the military.
BOOM.
Here’s why his Dukakis moment leaves him missing a leg to stand on this morning…

Progressives are on the verge of losing the fight for the future direction of America, socially and politically. While we fret about the individual trees of politics in this cycle, from women’s rights to voter intimidation, Libertarians have been looking at how best to chop down the whole governmental forest for decades.

The 2012 GOP Presidential race has been a clown comedy cavalcade: Michele Bachmann and her warped takes on liberty and history; Rick Perry with his… with his… Nope. Don’t got it; Herman Cane’s 9-9-9 solution to fixing the economy which doubled as Little Caesar’s perfect pizza discount; Rand Paul’s compassionate conservatism in his leave the poor’s sick to charities speech.
Who can forget Newt Gingrich, with his uncanny ability to make just about everyone remember why they hated him in the first place? Or Rick Santorum, who made as much of a statement with his woeful ignorance as his sweater vests.
Truly, it was a cavalcade of clowns! It’s all been very entertaining, but now that we’re getting closer to November 6th, the gags and gaffes aren’t as funny anymore. Read the rest of this entry »
