An elephant may never forget, but the elephants of the GOP are sure hoping that you will, well, overlook a few inconvenient truths in their march to bring back 19th century capitalism without a social safety net. Sadly, so does the media caught between the story and an epic pay day.

Their vested interest and power, without regard to consequence or the welfare of the nation, is only countered by you.

Rick Santorum and the men of the GOP rail on about Right-to-Life issues.  It’s a Republican conundrum: Appeasing the Religious Right creates a nightmarish welfare state abhorrent to selfish Libertarian and fiscal conservatives that, unchecked, could bring about the devolution of mankind.  Sounds too strong? Read on.

UPDATED – We’ve been tracking the aftermath of the GOP primaries and watching the superficial spin by the mainstream media. They want Romney to win, to fit the standard narrative. Where you win, county by county, is more important than by how much in American primary politics. Rick Santorum’s wins in Mississippi and Alabama last night, with Red counties on steroids, reaffirm it. Read the rest of this entry »

Freedom of speech is one of the great founding principals of the United States. In fact, the First Amendment specifically prohibits limitations on speech by the Government, with very few exceptions.  Rush Limbaugh is not one of those exceptions and he is forgetting the rule. To Rush Limbaugh and the GOP Dittoheads: It’s “We, the People,” not “I, the Person”

In 2012, Fascism, GOP, Health Care, Ideologies, Living, Media, Media News & Criticism, Neo Conservatives, Patriotism, Political Punditry, Politics, Radio News, Republicans, Right Wing Talk Radio, Rush Limbaugh, Totalitarianism, Women's Rights, Years on March 6, 2012 at 3:30 pm

Rush Limbaugh is an ass.

  • He thinks that the more sex you have, the more birth control pills you need to take.
  • He thinks women who need birth control are sluts.  If the collective “we” has to pay for contraceptive care, then the collective “we” should get to watch videos of girls having sex.
  • He thinks a woman , who speaks on behalf of a friend who lost an ovary because she was denied access to contraceptives, should have parents who are ashamed of her.

No, Rush. Shame on you.

The GOP Contraception Confrontation

The recent uproar about women’s rights and health care is a time machine back to the 1950’s.

Birth control has been a non-controversial issue for decades.  At least it was until Newt Gingrich, in early February, latched on to the fact that the Obama administration announced in mid-January that it had mandated that birth control be covered at no co-pay as basic health care service by insurance providers.

It took a while for the GOP to take hold of the issue and blow it out of proportion. Read the rest of this entry »

Father Knows Best is Not Common Sense

It was bad enough that last week when Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in an unprecedented move for an HHS secretary, overturned the FDA’s approval of her department’s decision to release the Plan B One Step morning after emergency contraceptive for women  as an over-the-counter medication, regardless of age.

Obama and Dems Fail to Champion a Champion (Again)

In yet another stunning reversal, President Obama and many leaders in the Democratic Party have backed away from support of a true consumer champion.

In September it was Elizabeth Warren, then acting head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). This month it is Dr. Donald Berwick, acting administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). Read the rest of this entry »
