Power. That’s the name of the game in Republican politics. Not principle. Not vision.  Who are the core players in that power game?  t2P has combed several lists of ‘key’ Republican players from the two opposing forces in the Radical Right, the Libertarians and the Neo Cons.  Our top ten list represents the people who, through political clout, money, or both, are seminal driving forces that corrupt Republican politics and push it to the extremist ends that it promotes today.

Rick Santorum and the men of the GOP rail on about Right-to-Life issues.  It’s a Republican conundrum: Appeasing the Religious Right creates a nightmarish welfare state abhorrent to selfish Libertarian and fiscal conservatives that, unchecked, could bring about the devolution of mankind.  Sounds too strong? Republicans need a new pledge: NO MORE TURNIPHEADS.

The primaries from Hell continue as the mediocre Mitt fends off reactionary Rick and nasty Newt. Another Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) closed last Sunday with more of the same brain-dead 19th century Libertarian-meets-”Christian” rhetoric that is to the party what ticks are to a dog.

Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Sarah Palin are the best that the Republican party can muster up?

Please.

Rick Santorum: Stay in Your Lane

In 2012, American Values, Campaign 2012, Christianity, Elections, Faiths, Federal Government, GOP, Ideologies, Neo Conservatives, Politics, Racism, Religious Right, Rick Santorum, Tea Party, The White House, Totalitarianism, Years on February 11, 2012 at 11:17 am

Rick Santorum wants his federal government both ways.

There are two flavors of federal government. One with strong central powers, that has its hand in the day-to-day of life. Then there is  the “states rights,” model, which the GOP promotes, that keeps everything split up into 50 different flavors of government.  States rights has always been code for keeping the status quo in states which don’t want to change their ways, whether it be desegregating a school or flying the Stars and Bars over a capitol building well into the 21st century. For Romney, the ‘Where’ of Primaries Means Losses, Not Wins

In 2012, American Values, Barack Obama, Campaign 2008, Campaign 2012, Christianity, Democrats, Elections, Faiths, GOP, Ideologies, John McCain, Michigan, Mitt Romney, Politics, Racism, Religious Right, Republicans, Rick Santorum, States, Tea Party, Years on February 1, 2012 at 9:43 am

It’s Mitt’s Michigan Miracle.  Those fifteen “winning” delegates to Santorum’s paltry fifteen. Wait. That’s a tie, when you’re not doing Mitt Math. So the media scores one for Romney. Once again, though, WHERE Mitt is winning and losing is more important than by how much.

Democrats have a few whopping-bad ideas that we inject from time-to-time into the political system. One of them, the “response” to the State of the Union address, initiated under King Richard of Nixon in 1966, really has to go. [1] Read the rest of this entry »

GOP Smackdown: The Winner of South Carolina won’t be Romney, Gingrich, Santorum or Paul

There will be one loser in Saturday’s South Carolina primary: The GOP.  The winner will be Citizens United, which has unleashed the Godzillas of funding in the Battle of the Billionaires! Who will be the top in the schism of the selfish sects of the Republican Party? A handful of billionaires have spent more than 50 million in just three primary contests to gain control of the general election.  Which billionaire’s scheme will reign supreme?!

I was born to Chinese parents. Raised as a Christian in a Muslim country. And we spoke English as a first language at home.

Which is, to say, I grew up in the most eclectic of environments. Where the singing of Methodist hymns was as familiar a sound to me as the Muslim call to prayer during dawn and dusk. And where I celebrated Chinese New Year and Christmas just surely as I celebrated the festival of Eid alongside Muslim friends.

I didn’t see it as exotic. Or intriguing. Or strange. It was just the nature of life in Malaysia. Read the rest of this entry »
