Grover Norquist is smarter than Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, and Rick Santorum combined. He knows what a fool’s errand running for President is. As a matter of fact, Norquist, our future leader, a key player in the ALEC shadow government, spelled that out exactly in a little-seen and less commented upon speech advocating the Rubber-Stamp Presidency.
While researching the why of the GOP’s continued radicalization and Rightward devolution for my t2P piece “No More Turnipheads,” I stumbled across a video without much viewing on YouTube of our Leader, Grover Norquist.
In it, Norquist describes the “ideal” president as one who is going to sign whatever he and his friends in the Dead Billionaires’ Club who own the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) cook up.
Norquist wants Republicans go to out and find the biggest turnipheads that they can, and put them in office. People who are reactionary rubber stampers en masse. Then he wants a super-rubber stamp, a president with an agreeable pen, to push through whatever ALEC delivers to the Congress.
Most people know Mr. Norquist from his infamous “tax pledge,” but he and pal Jack Abramoff were the young guns of the Libertarian overthrow of the Republican Party who weaseled their way into the Party with the backing of DBC members like the Koch brothers and the DeVOS family (See: I Pledge Allegiance to Grover Norquist)
Why bother with the pretense, Mr. Norquist? If you don’t like the Constitution, why don’t you do away with it and turn the U.S. into the corporatist oligarchy that you and your 19th century Dead Billionaires Club backers have desired for so many years?
His only problem is that there are a lot of us who don’t share his viewpoint, or appreciate his cynical manipulation of the feckless Fox News fan.
It is up to independents and the Left to stop him. Liberal voters stayed home in 2010. They didn’t support anti-Teahadi candidates. Look what our “vote the bums out” theory bought us… A whole new kind of fascism.
These are not “Republicans” as we have known them over the decades. Mr. Norquist’s mission is to put politically pliable individuals into the seats of power for his governmental puppet show.
Their aim is to tear down the federal government, and weaken state government so that their masters can return us to 19th century capitalism, freewheeling exploitive capitalism, no unions, and no social safety net.
Libertarians running the real agenda of the GOP don’t have enough votes, enough pull to do this alone though. In order to get the coalition that puts them over the top, they must swallow a large portion of the “get the government off of your back” politicology that they preach and engage in the hypocrisy of pandering to the Christian far Right, which wants the government very much in your bedroom and your underwear, thanks to Gov. McDonnell and the Virginia legislature, among others.
Stupid and dogmatic has been the chic in GOP culling of politicians. You don’t get smart people running for office in the Republican Party anymore. They get the floor wiped with them financially by DBC backed/Norquist approved morons that range from Rick Perry and Sarah Palin down to dogmatic Christian soldiers like Jan Brewer in Arizona, Christine “I’m Not A Witch” O’Donnell in Delaware, and the Mad Hater, Allan West of Florida.
At our page for truth-2-Power at Facebook we get a few of the wing-nuts who like to tell us about the Obama “tyranny.” They never, of course, specify what it is, even when we call them out on it. Always call them out on their dogma. It’s political junk food. Twinkie propaganda. They digest it, but they never even begin to understand it.
My fear is that Farenheit 451, Ray Bradbury’s brilliant cautionary tale about the dumbing down of America until democracy falls apart, is rapidly coming true.
2012 is a showdown point. If the Left, and the Center, don’t push back hard on the Teahadis at all levels, and disavow the hateful, politically grubby, soulless candidates that have been offered up by the Republican Party, I fear that the damage done by the eight years of the Bush Administration is only the beginning.
As long as Grover Norquist holds power in the party, and make no mistake he does, you need to look up the strings from any Republican candidate to see who is pulling them, and stop them if you love this country and want to preserve the Republic.
My shiny two.
